A Brief History of Wise County Domestic Violence Task Force

1997
A group of women in Wise County recognized that something needed to be done concerning domestic violence in Wise county and surrounding rural communities. This group of volunteers was the beginning of the
Wise County Domestic Violence Task Force.

1999
WISE COUNTY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TASK FORCE was officially organized and received recognition
from the Internal Revenue Service
as a 501(3) C entity.
On August 2, 1999, the office opened
with one part-time employee
funded by a United Way donation.


2001
WISE COUNTY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TASK FORCE purchased a home to be remodeled and rehabilitated as a safe house for battered women and their children.

located at 303 S. State St.
Decatur, Texas.

Monday - Friday
8 am - 5 pm

If you feel you are in eminent danger,
call our 24 hour crisis hotline at

dial 911 for emergency assistance or
go to the nearest law enforcement agency.

They will contact us at your request.

To be eligible for services,
a client must be physically, emotionally, or sexually abused by a partner,
former partner, or another family or household member.
Information and referral is also available for the batterer.

Services for victims of family violence include:

Temporary 24-hour-a-day shelter

24-hour hotline

Information and referral to other services

Legal advocacy

Peer Counseling

Assistance in obtaining medical care

Emergency transportation

Day and Evening Support Groups

Information about training for and seeking employment
